Whilst we already know that DayZ will be coming to the PS4 (announced at GamesCom), we don’t know when or what is planned for the Xbox One.
Last week the EGX event was able to shed more light on just who will be getting console access to DayZ and if it will be a part of the Early Access program.
“DayZ is definitely going to be a multi-platform title – that’s the firm vision from Bohemia’s standpoint. But we’ll announce what all the other platforms are as we get to that point.
There’s been no decision made about when DayZ releases, and that would depend on what options Sony provides. I don’t think they’ve said anything about… Everyone’s said they’re thinking about it [Early Access releases].
There’s a lot of problems with Early Access on PC that definitely are at the forefront of people’s minds, so when DayZ will release would depend very much on what Sony offers in terms of if it was going to do an Early Access program, what it looks like. Then also the state of DayZ – does it make sense to do it through that?
The during next year thing would depend very much on what do the consoles offer in terms of release strategies, a straight up retail release? It’s not going to be next year, because there’s just too much work remaining. It would be a very bizarre universe where there would be a 1.0 release of DayZ on consoles before PC.” – Dean Hall (creator).
Given that the current engine for DayZ is in the process of being replaced so that the game can be developed for consoles, the developers think that it will be early next year that they will have a clearer indication of when they will be able to finish development and ship the game off to us.
So there is a lot yet to be done, we are still quite some time off being able to enjoy DayZ on our consoles but it’s great to know that we will be able to join the ranks of the PC gamers and experience DayZ for ourselves in the near future.
