Fry’s Electronics has announced via Twitter that they would have a limited supply of Majora’s Maks 3DS handhelds available to walk-in customers. This is great news if you missed the pre-order frenzy or happened to have your pre-order cancelled on you.
Rumors are that other retailers will have this same availability though I have not been able to obtain solid confirmation that they will. Kotaku has confirmed that GameStop did open up pre-orders for a limited amount to “ensure that customers across the country have a fair shot at this exciting product.”
This week has been a pretty big deal for many retailers in combating product scalpers that seem to be plaguing the market in droves, especially for Nintendo. Let us not get started on how they have been affecting the Amiibo figures since they have launched.
Even in combating the scalpers some retailers have had issues in cancelling too many pre-orders. Best Buy announced that they would be cancelling all orders of the limited handheld if the order had duplicate numbers of the handhelds. After which pre-orders opened back up that unfortunately caused some single orders to get cancelled as well.
Best Buy is one of many companies who have been combating scalpers as GameStop, Fry’s Electronics and Target, among others, have been doing similar things and re-opening limited pre-orders.
