Transferring “Old” 3DS Data to Your “NEW” 3DS

If you are one of the lucky ones to get your hands on a NEW Nintendo 3DS today, or tomorrow have you, transferring your data might be the number one priority for you. Unfortunately for us consumers, the rate of Nintendo adapting to modern times with most things is slower than a planted tree running a foot race.

Transferring your data for your 3DS is simple but also overly complicated for current day gaming. While most other systems will allow you to back up your data online to download later, Nintendo is stuck in a time when you needed cords. To be fair, the Xbox 360 needed a fairly outdated process just a matter of years ago to transfer between systems, but that is a whole other ballpark when you are dealing with gigabytes of data.

Luckily, Nintendo is well aware that many consumers eager to purchase their new handheld might be without complete and proper knowledge on how to go about this process. Their official YouTube channel recently released a video that details how to transfer not only your saved data but also your Nintendo Network ID and info.

While I am unsure if this is just a copy of the credentials, you might want to ensure that all of your data is removed from your prior 3DS if you plan to trade it in. Last thing you need is someone purchasing all of the games he or she wants with your hard earned Nintendo credit or personal card information.

Hopefully you have been able to get your hands on a pre-order of the NEW Nintendo 3DS. Recently GameStop revealed that they are completely sold out of all inventory for pre-orders. Rumors have also been stirring that many pre-orders for the Majora’s Mask version of the 3DS have been cancelled due to inability to fulfill the order. We recently reported that some vendors would be selling the limited edition 3DS for in-store walk-ins. Happy gaming!
